So that's why they call it the Green Party!

For the third time in under 10 years, a Minneapolis city councilman is caught, on film and on tape, milking a real estate developer for cash.

But this time is different.

If you have ever taken a stroll through the Green Party's website, or listened to on of it's blatherskite candidates you know that to say it's on the fringe is being kind.

This is the party of last resort for disgruntled socialists, moonies, tree fort-less tree huggers, body piercing fanatics, wankers, reprobates and wanna-be's. I outed the Green Party candidate for mayor of Minneapolis for the racist moonbat she is a few weeks ago and here is another one looking for a bit of well deserved limelight.

Yes folks, here we have yet another "champion of the poor", "defender of the "downtrodden", caught squeezing the honest man just as hard as any of the corporate "raiders" that I can guarantee he spends a good part of his day ranting about.

And Minneapolis keeps electing these people none-the-less....go figure.

The boy of the hour is one Dean Zimmermann, a Green Party member seeking his second term for Minneapolis city council

Seems Dean-O was looking for someone to foot his legal bills and help fund his campaign at the same time an as yet unnamed developer was looking to invest some capital in his district.

The rest of the story is entirely predictable, the FBI wired the developer for lights and sound and got the whole thing in it's cinematic splendour. Equally predicatable is Zimmerman's reaponse:

"Speaking on behalf of the poor and the oppressed and the generations yet to come is not always popular, but it is necessary. It is my life's work, it is my work as a public official, and it is work I intend to continue.''
Yeah, yeah, tell it to your cellmate\husband Dean, I'm sure he'll be a great listener and want to hear all about it.

I can just hear him now, justifying his crimes by explaining how important is was for him to be re-elected, how the poor, the victims of society just can't face the day without knowing Dean Zimmerman is on the job.

God I despise these poverty pimps!

What's next, the mayor getting caught on video smoking crack?

I don't think the cities can be saved.

Marion Berry is in town?

The cities can be saved from such nonsense, but it will take a long time. The Strib is a fortress that protects so much liberal nonsense that goes on. Can it be changed? (Stop laughing! I'm talking about a longterm plan)

As a short term plan I think it makes sense to support Governor Pawlenty, even if he raised "fees". He is a check on liberal power in this state and should be appreciated as such.

Odd how the bedrock principle of our jurisprudence -- "innocent until proven guilty" -- appears to be increasingly irrelevant to so many.

Those who pursue liberty in their lives surely understand, that, in the USA I grew up in anyway, accusation does not equal criminal wrongdoing.

The man has not been charged with any crime. He is simply under investigation.

Though I'm certainly not an advocate of the DFL, if you want to see what Pawlenty's LGA cuts have done in rural Minnesota, you only have to look at last year's House races -- both the incumbent Republicans in my area lost to two Democrats who had never held public office of any kind at any level. One of the Republicans who lost had been in office three terms! Working conservatives in Beltrami County swung around from Bush to Kerry last time too.

Look at what happened in Rochester -- in the last few cycles they went from Republican dominance to an Independence Party State Senator and two DFLers in the House!

Pawlenty is a nice guy and a comforting public figure but his policies have definitely alienated alot of formerly conservative enclaves outside of The Twin Cities.

You're right rib, he hasn't been convicted and he's considered innocent until he is.

I'm reacting to the fact that the FBI says they have a videotape and cite specifically damnning verbage.

But maybe all isn't as it seems; point taken.
